Typically, students receiving Tier 2 intervention and support participate for 6-8 weeks before progress is monitored to determine if they are responding sufficiently. If so, they return to Tier 1. If not, they receive additional Tier 2 supports or are moved to Tier 3.
Tier 3: Intensive interventions and supports for students with chronic or persistent problems
Tier 3 of MTSS is the highest level of support, and is reserved for students with chronic or persistent problems. These students will require intensive interventions and supports in order to make progress in school. In some cases, these students may be placed in a special education program.
